The Happiness Formula That Really Works
Happiness is reality minus expectations.
We can be happy and enjoy the happiness that surrounds us and fills our human experience by adhering to this simple formula. Happiness is reality minus expectations. This means that our reality - our lives in this world are incredible - way better than we often view our lives and view our world.
There is so much good, love, joy, life, and beauty in every moment in our day, in our interactions, in our work, and in our play through out the day. We are able to experience and embrace this joy increasingly as we are made aware that it is even there and available for us and to us.
We have to do one primary thing to truly embrace and grasp this great joy and happiness available to us. We have to lay down our expectations. Expectations are a fear response - a desperate and futile attempt to prepare ourselves for what could happen or could go wrong by creating expectations of what should happen.
But expectations harm us way more than they help us. Expectations cause more suffering and take us farther and farther away from satisfaction, delight, and fulfillment. The ceiling of what expectations deliver is relief. At most, when filled with expectations, we can feel relieved when things go the way we thought they should go. Thus expectations are a barrier and not a aide to our happiness.
We would all feel much happier if we lay down our expectations as much as we can as often as we can so we can enjoy our lives and relationships more.
Happiness is available to us. Happiness is reality minus expectations.
